Alison is committed to making her research as engaging and accessible as possible. She has acted as a consultant for the BBC and has written for the Irish Times, RTÉ and the Guardian. Her project on the 1980/81 Long Kesh/Maze Hunger Strikes, co-organised with Dr. Maggie Scull, included a series for the Irish Times and audio recordings of the conference proceedings, which you can listen to here.

She has worked extensively with schools, community groups, outreach services and charities. Examples of this include ‘At Home in Scotland: Stories of Place’, a collaborative project with Kickstart, Contact the Elderly, Beltane Public Engagement Network and the Scottish Storytelling Centre. She has been involved with Widening Participation activities since she was an undergraduate at King’s College London.

She currently volunteers with ‘Time to Read’, a paired reading programme with primary schools in Belfast.
